FC Luzern 6 FC Aarau 0

Aargauers, I can feel your pain, I know that you like to think that you are un-relegatable but I am sorry to say that based on what you showed at Gresag today you are going down, and no doubt you will struggle to get back up again. No surprise that the away section was half empty by the time we scored the fourth and almost completely deserted at the end of the game. The Aargau players should seriously consider reimbursing the few away fans that made it to Luzern.

Luzern started the game in the best possible fashion. We had hardly time to pay for the fist round of Eichofs when J-M Tchouga opened the floodgates with a determined strike after Ianu managed to head down a loose ball.  Welcome back Jean-Michel, we missed you! For some reason if felt as we had already won the game after two minutes.

Only minutes later Frimpong scores the second, this time the Aarau goalkeeper is largely at fault letting the shot slip under his arm. It has to be said though that he didnt get much help from his defenders. The Aarau back four were terrible throughout the game. Despite dominating the first half completely we did not manage to add to the 2-0 scoreline, the closest we came was a Ianu header that hit the crossbar.

FC Luzern dominated even more in the second half. In the 53rd minute Frimpong provides Chiumento whith a great ball and the midfielder scores with a shot that somehow slipped under the goalkeeper – 3-0. Great to see Davide who has been working hard to get back into form to get onto the score sheet.

Ten minutes later Ianu gets a great through ball from the wonderful Chiumento. Ianu unselfishly passes the ball to Frimpong for a tap-in and we are four goals up. Only minutes later the Aarau defence shows more evidence of its ineptness. The Luzern attackers (Chiumento and Ianu) are again left alone to combine – Chiumnento finally put the black and whites out of their misery and scores his second and Luzern’s fifth. This is getting embarrassing. Minutes later Ianu scores Luzern’s sixth goal on a counter attack and the rout is complete.

Although it was said that he would be out until Christmas Hakan Yakin came on after 70 minutes – at this time the game was already won but the substitition is good news for us as Yakin will now probably be available for the cup game against St Gallen on Thursday.

This was the last game of the first half of the season, we have now played all teams twice (home and away).  With only two new players (Ianu and Yakin) we have seen a completely different team from last season, this team plays good football and never gives up. Rolf Fringer has really managed turned things around. A third place behind YB and FCB is a fantastic achievement and maybe it is time to start dreaming about Europe instead of dreading relegation. Just can’t beat that.
