The second in our series of playlists looks at grunge and grunge-inspired bands. The first playlist told  of JCBT’s ambition to be both professional footballers and fully paid up rock musicians. Like Carlos Tevez, I suppose. That man really has it all. Or so you would think unless you would think, unless you’ve seen his face.

This JCBT writer wanted to be neither a rock star nor a football idol. I am a football idle and I never wanted to be a rock star. I think I saw it as too much effort. I spent my youth hanging around toilet venues watching bands nobody had ever heard of and saw a fair few friends play in bands, sign a record deal, bigger off for a year touring only to come back exhausted and skint and worse off for it. I wanted to be John Peel. He got to play what he wanted, when he wanted and got to do it from the comfort of home. He also got loads of chicks although he did once spend an intimate evening with Germaine Greer. I guess you have to take the rough with the smooth.

Onto the playlist and as the late, great Mark Twain once wrote “What would men be without women? Scarce, sir…mighty scarce.” In tribute to their rock greatness here’s some of the finest to feature ladies from the grunge genre. If you don’t like things of the glam side of rock then avoid Rachel Stamp. I once interviewed them before a show and they spent the entire interview trying to get me to dress up like one of them for the evening and join them on-stage to play the triangle. If you google them you’ll find out why I declined.
